IN THIS WEEK MASTER CLASS LECTURE, EICAR INTERNATIONAL DEPARTMENT STUDENTS HAD THE PRIVILEGE TO ASSIST AT THE SCREENING OF THE RECENTLY RELEASED DOCUMENTARY FILM SWAGGER AND TO MEET ITS PRODUCER, MARINE DORFMANN.
Swagger is a documentary film directed by Olivier Babinet about 11 children and teenagers growing up in the underprivileged neighborhoods of Aulnay-sous-Bois and Sevran, France, in the outskirts of Paris. Throughout the film, the audience discovered the characters’ personalities as well as their dreams and ambitions.
Marine Dorfmann, was a philosophy major in school and took acting and producingclasses at NYU Summer School. She worked as an agent for photographers and photo shoot producers for a while, mostly finding work for her clients in commercials.
In 2010, she launched her own production company, Faro. Since then, she has produced four short films. She has also worked as a producer for IRENE Company on over 25 music videos, commercials and artists’ films. This is where she met director Olivier Babinet and DoP Timo Salminen, and worked with them on the music video of British band Erasure’s song Life on Earth, which was the initial starting point of the development of the film.
During the Master Class Lecture, Marine took the students through the process of making the film and how they built the film around what the kids had to say about their lives.
