The Eagles of Cartage: back to Venice
After several months where major international film festivals were canceled or postponed, Venice International Film Festival and Critic’s Week will mark a new beginning for the film industry.
Five years after his first selection in Venice, Adriano Valerio presents Les Aigles de Carthage (The Eagles of Cartage).
February 14, 2004, Radès Olympic Stadium, Tunis. The whole nation stands behind The Eagles of Carthage in the Africa Cup Final against Morocco. After many defeats they are just one step away from glory. Fifteen years after the match, Tunisians still recall the emotion of a day that deeply affected the History of the country.

“Football is understandably hated by many people, notes Adriano Valerio, because it is a system with an immense economic impact, which suffocates other sports and above all many topical issues.
In contrast, I am part of the huge community that loves this game, and perhaps even of a smaller cult that is obsessed with it, in the sense that football fascinates me in all its aspects: as tactics, occupation of spaces, enhancement of the individual through the collective and of the collective through the individual.
I like sports literature, but I also love football as a social phenomenon and as a popular ritual.
The film tries to make all these aspects coexist.”
The film will be screened as the Special Event Opening short film. Three other screenings are scheduled during the Film Critic’s Week.
