EICAR is the only French Film School involved in the international project THE GLEANERS AND I, Revisiting Agnès Varda’s edit spearheaded by Rosalie Varda, and has forged a partnership with Ciné-Tamaris to pass on Agnès Varda's legacy to the next generation of filmmakers.

This partnership was made possible through the personal commitment of Rosalie Varda, who, through her ongoing work to promote and preserve Agnès Varda's body of work, embodies the living connection between cinematic heritage and contemporary creation.

Unique Rushes for EICAR Students

EICAR has joined the project led by Rosalie Varda through a major international educational partnership built around THE GLEANERS AND I, Revisiting Agnès Varda’s edit

The ambition is significant: to give students the opportunity to work with the complete original rushes of the film, made exclusively available, in order to produce their own version by rethinking the edit of this landmark documentary work.

Revisiting Les Glaneurs et la Glaneuse means engaging directly with Agnès Varda's perspective, understanding the making of a documentary from the inside, and experiencing first-hand the power of editing as a genuine creative act. By immersing themselves in nearly sixty hours of indexed rushes, students explore the narrative, rhythmic and aesthetic choices that shape a film in concrete, hands-on terms — fully in keeping with EICAR's philosophy of learning by doing.

The Only School in France to Take Part

EICAR is the only school in France participating in this international initiative, which brings together hundreds of students worldwide. Prestigious universities — notably in the United States, including CUNY (City University of New York), a long-standing partner institution of EICAR — are also taking part in this collective reflection on the act of editing and Agnès Varda's enduring legacy.

A Project Dedicated to BFA and MFA International Students

In keeping with EICAR's commitment to learning by doing and to fostering the tradition of great cinema, this exceptional program is dedicated to the BFA and MFA students of EICAR's International Department, as well as participants in the One Year Filmmaking program, strengthening the bridges between technical training, artistic reflection, and intercultural exchange.

EICAR's partnership with CUNY also allows students at that campus to take part in the exercise, further solidifying the bond between partner schools in a spirit of genuine collaboration.

A Partnership with Ciné-Tamaris to Celebrate Agnès Varda's Legacy

In parallel, EICAR has entered into a partnership with Ciné-Tamaris, the company run by Rosalie Varda, which manages the catalogue of works by Agnès Varda and Jacques Demy.

This partnership will give rise to a series of educational and cultural events on campus: screenings, tool presentations, talks and masterclasses dedicated to Agnès Varda's films, to cinematic heritage, and to the contemporary challenges of film restoration and transmission. Through these two complementary partnerships — one pedagogical, one heritage-driven — EICAR affirms its commitment to transmission, creation, and international dialogue around the great figures of cinema.
